  • Imaginaries of Negative Emissions Technologies

The research group “Social Embedding of Carbon Cycles” investigates how carbon management technologies – with a particular focus on carbon capture and utilisation – are embedded in social contexts, and which knowledge frameworks, practices and interpretative patterns come into play in this process.
The focus is on questions of societal perception and acceptance, the negotiation of responsibilities, and the role of the media, public authorities, civil society actors and other multipliers in the co-production of knowledge about a future carbon cycle economy.

The previous phases of Carbon2Chem® have shown that there is a significant discrepancy between scientific and technical knowledge and the socially prevalent perceptions of such technologies. Analysing these differences in knowledge and interpretation, and developing ways in which different publics can be informed, addressed and involved in co-productive exchange processes during the transformation process, is a central objective of the sub-project.
